I love stripes! This is no secret to my friends/family and to the folks who follow me on Polyvore. So it’s no surprise that I’ve been lusting after the Kate Spade Mariella and Carolyn dresses since both came out (I think last season). It’s a classic print and silhouette, flattering to most figures – but I’m not going to fork over almost $400 for a dress. I live in Colorado and although we have over 300 sunny days in a year, there aren’t enough pleasant weather days that would make this purchase justifiable (cost per wear would take a long time to payoff). So when I stumbled across a dup on The Limited website, I was ecstatic. Not only was it very similar to the KS version, it was on sale for $60 (orig $98). Score! I wanted to try it on in store but it was only available online. No worries….gave it a shot – I can always return it at the store if it didn’t work out. Well…I won’t be returning this dress. [Insert happy dance here] I love it – love the cut, fabric and style.
The Fit: It fits very nicely; it’s got a flared or A-line skirt with shirring on the waist. Hides any tummy imperfections well. I got it in a size 6. I find sizing at The Limited is very inconsistent. I bought another dress there that fit well in a size XS which is bizarre that the size 6 fits me perfectly. It hits me right at the knees, which is my preference (I’m 5’4”).
The Quality: It’s 98% cotton and 2% spandex. It’s not lined but it’s not see-through either. The material is nicely made. It’s got an exposed zipper on the back and a faux pocket on the front with a gold button, nice detail. And the best feature in any dress: it’s got pockets!!
Availability: It’s still available at The Limited for $98 + 40% off (current promotion). Similar styles are also available both in low and high end brands – click here to view or scroll down to the bottom of this post.
Verdict: It’s definitely a keeper! I can’t wait ‘til the weather is nice enough to wear it.
