Born Valentina boots

I know that Spring is just around the corner but here in Colorado, we can still suffer through a few hits of Winter weather ’til late May. Yes, I’m justifying a purchase 😉 But after I opened the box from Piperlime, I was immediately gratified – I love these boots! I have been looking for a new pair of black boots that wouldn’t kill my heels and I’ve heard good things about the Born brand. I’ve never tried Born before so I was hesitant. After going through all the boots on sale on Piperlime, I settled on these and the extra 20% off sale made it easier to pull the trigger. It was originally $210, on sale for $99 + 20% off and free shipping of course.

The Fit: I wear a size 6 normally but I usually have to size up with boots, not the case with the Valentina. There were only a few sizes left from the sale so I bought it in a 6. I was nervous that it might be too tight but after reading the reviews, I went for it. It fits perfect!!! The soles are so comfy – I’ve walked in them for a few hours and my heels survived. When it comes to boots, I have to be careful about the calf circumference as I have skinny ankles but thicker calves. My calves measure about 14.75″ and these boots have a 15.5″ circumference and with the stretch goring, gives me perfect room to tuck my jeans. The shaft height is perfect for me – it hits right at the top of my legs, right at the knee joint which is exactly what I wanted.

The Quality: The quality of leather is fantastic. It’s substantial, not flimsy like other cheaper brands. When it’s standing on its own, the shaft doesn’t collapse or slouch which is a testament to the quality of the leather. The stitching is also well done; no obvious or unraveling stitches.

Breaking in: There’s very little break in time at all with these, if any. The only thing is that because the leather quality is substantial, there is a little bit of break in time around the ankle area which with time I’m sure the leather will become more supple.

Availability: It’s still available on Piperlime for $99 (in sizes 6 and 7 only) in the color black only. Amazon has it in all three colors (slate, walnut, black) in many sizes, ranging from $146 – $210. A similar style is also available from Cole Haan here for $208.

Styling:  See how I’ve styled the Valentina on my Polyvore page here, here and here (my favorite so far).

Verdict: Definitely recommend! I want to buy it in every color!
