Joe Fresh debut at JC Penney’s

on March 17, 2013

I’ve re-discovered JC Penney’s as a source of affordable fashion basics (see old post here).  I usually shop there for household stuff like towels, beddings, small kitchen appliances…nothing exciting.  Lately though, they have revamped their retail stores to be more modern, with sections of items displayed in boutique-like vignettes, that are wearable at all ages.  They still have items and brands that their more mature shoppers have come to expect but their lackluster performance in the retail market as of late, called for some changes.  Gone are the clearance sales and door busters, replaced by lower everyday pricing.  The retail space itself is more airy and well spaced out.  It seemed over-crowded before.  This is one reason I prefer Target over Walmart.  I like the prices at Walmart but I feel like their stores are more warehouse like with crowded aisles.

More recently, they also added the Joe Fresh line to their stores.  The line debuted on March 15th in hopes of saving the struggling retailer.  Read more about it here.

I visited the store the day the line debuted to return a dress I bought for my daughter.  The store near my house was not crowded at all on a Friday which was nice for shoppers but not so much for JCP.  They were handing out $10 off coupons for every $50 spent – so I stopped by the Joe Fresh area to check it out.  I’d heard about Joe Fresh a long time ago in a magazine article – it’s a Canadian line that offer basics at an affordable price.  Everything in their line at JCP is under $70.

I was actually looking for a new pair of ankle white jeans and found the perfect one for $29.  It has a comfortable stretch to it and the length was exactly what I wanted.  Perfect for Spring/Summer.  Also found a gingham button down shirt, similar to those at JCrew and Gap, for $19.  Great deal!  The material and fit are both nice…love it!  I also tried out a knit dress with empire waist ($24), it was nice and cute but I didn’t like the high neckline.  Although it would be a real easy piece to wear during the summer…it was a no go for me.  Lastly, I picked up a light pink ribbed scoopneck tee for $12.  It’s incredibly soft and comfy.  All in all a nice little haul for Spring/Summer.

If you’ve shopped at JC Penney’s in the past and haven’t been in for a while, check out the new Joe Fresh line – you may find something cute and affordable – always a great combination.  And if you’ve bought Joe Fresh before and loved the line but won’t be anywhere near Canada, visit your local JC Penney’s instead.
