Handbag collection series (totes)

on October 23, 2012

I have a few obsessions in life, my husband and daughters top the list of course.  But when it comes to fashion, I’m somewhat addicted to handbags (and shoes and clothes and fashion jewelry and…).  Well, let’s talk about handbags for now.  I do have quite a collection of handbags, some were planned and impulse purchases and some were the result of months and months of stalking and searching on eBay.  I have all the totes pictured above; the totes with the red text description are those that I patiently awaited to become available on eBay as they were already long sold out in store and online.  And as luck would have it, I got them for a great price to boot.  The Cole Haan Kendal took a lot to finally own.  After seeing it for the first time on Courtney Cox in several episodes of Cougar Town, I had to have it.  At the time, a lot of the blogs mentioned it as a bag that many were after.  I called many stores but it was no longer available.  I spent months searching for it on eBay until finally one day, a seller had it and it wasn’t even described as the Kendal.  I stumbled upon it while scrolling through pages and pages of Cole Haan purses.  It was a brand new purse and it was half the price of retail (SCORE!).  The Coach Hamptons Flat bag was also an eBay score; I had passed it up when it first came out after almost purchasing it at the Caesars Palace Coach store (Vegas tends to encourage impulse buys) – but the price tag was too hefty.  Once again, after months of stalking it on eBay, a seller had it in EUC (excellent used condition) and she was accepting Best Offers.  I made an offer and she immediately accepted it – I got it for a third of the retail price.  I gasped when I opened the box the day it arrived – I was ecstatic; you never know what you’re going to get on eBay but this bag was immaculate.  The J.Crew uptown was also an eBay score; I made an offer to the seller which was also immediately accepted – a third of the retail price.  The last tote from eBay that I want to mention is the Kate Spade tote with large brown dots (row 4, left).  I don’t remember the style name (if anyone does, please leave it in the comment below, same with the taupe tote (row 4, right).  This one took a long time to find; I bought it about 9 years ago now when I first tried eBay.  I was bidding frantically trying to outdo another bidder.  It was close but I was determined to own it.  I love love this purse…but strangely enough, I don’t use it that much.  I’m afraid of getting any stains on it (sad).

What’s the lesson here?  You don’t need this many purses…KIDDING!  Of course, I don’t need this many purses but I do enjoy the thrill of the hunt…it’s quite exhilirating.  It’s always fun to score a deal especially on items that would cost so much more at retail stores.  So don’t be afraid of trying out eBay – there are many reputable sellers on eBay; once you find a few, you’ll find that you will go back to them time and time again for reliable purchases.  Next in this blog series, I will do a post on my hobos and satchels.

Do you buy from eBay?  What deals have you scored recently from eBay or elsewhere?
