So…I mentioned in this post how I have a deranged habit of buying things in multiples in case they get discontinued or ruined. This is none truer than in the case of my J.Crew Uptown totes. As most JCA’s know, the Uptown tote (especially those created by Borge Garveri) is no longer being made or sold which is unfortunate…I really love this tote. It has the perfect size and handle drop in my opinion. The leather is luxurious and I like that it doesn’t have a lining…adds to its charm and character I think. This tote can now mostly be had on eBay, which is where I found the three that I have (so far).
Your first is always special and my first Uptown in yellow was no exception. I scored it in brand new condition for $100 in a “best offer” scenario. The seller had it stored in her closet, never used…score! It originally retailed for almost $300. Next was the brown version for $50…it’s in EUC…this one came down to a bidding showdown but I persevered and ended up winning it. The last and most recent one is the red version which I had been stalking on eBay for a few months. There were two available for bidding the week I spied it – the one I won was actually not accurately named so it wasn’t on any stalkers’ radar. I have a bunch of saved searches on my eBay home page; I try to be as vague as I can to make sure the search filters catch everything I’m looking for and it paid off with the red version – got it for $60.
I’m now after the other colors in the order you see above….I woud love to own the elusive Tiffany blue version (not sure what J.Crew actually named this color) but I’m not optimistic. I’ve yet to see it come up for auction on eBay but I’ll keep at it.
