Thought I’d do a Friday post this week to continue on with this Fall Essentials series. If you saw the first in this series here, you can see that as temps start dropping, it’s not enough to wear shirts and jeans to keep the chills at bay especially if you’re off to drop kids at school or head to work early. Depending on how chilly it can get, I usually throw on what I refer to as a completer piece – either a cardigan, blazer or a lightweight jacket. Most of the pieces above are from my current closet or wardrobe. The key again is to have classic and timeless pieces that will survive the trends season after season. Now don’t get me wrong – I love me a trendy item too but I don’t consider those wardrobe essentials. They’re fun interjections of new, edgy and modern pieces…which we do need in our closet, otherwise – it starts to look dated. For trendy pieces as I’ve mentioned in other posts, I try not to spend too much money – I like Target, JCPenney, Old Navy, Gap, H&M and Forever 21 for inexpensive “flash in the pan” items. To keep outfits from putting people to sleep (#snorefest), I add accessories that have sparkle, color and cheesy as it sounds, pizzazz (yes, I said it). In other words, keep the basics basic, then sprinkle with your own personality using fun jewelry, scarves, hats, purses, etc.. So look at your closet and see what essentials you already have – I’m willing to bet you have most of the foundational pieces already. If you have any gaps or holes to fill, then do it slowly – don’t rush to buy cheap low quality items – take your time and really really love what you end up purchasing. You’ll actually end up saving more $$ in the end as you wear them year after year. Part 3 of this series will be about jewelry and misc accessories. That’s it for now – enjoy your weekend!
