To help with my BCA October Pink Challenge, I decided to try the Essie “I Am Strong” polish from their Breast Cancer Awareness 2012 collection. The Essie website describes it as “a creamy, optimistic pink”…love that. It’s a very vibrant fuschia pink, very pretty and girly. If you have fair skin like me, it really stands out but not in an obnoxious way. When it’s first applied, it’s creamy (as the website described) but a bit streaky so it took two coats to have a nice finish. My nail application routine consists of a base coat (Sally Hansen Diamond Shine) and top coat (Sally Hansen Insta Dri). I thought that with the base coat, the application would be less streaky. After the second coat, it appeared to be more even.
I also wanted to mention that one of the best tools I’ve purchased for my nail polish application routine is a couple of brushes from Michael’s. They’re actually art/painting brushes called Royal & Langnickel Soft Grip. I know I could’ve just bought similar brushes from Sally’s but these are amazing. The brush head is very firm, perfect for cleaning up nail polish application mistakes. And it has a soft grip (hence the name) to make it easier to maneuver and also a pointed end where nail-polish remover dipped cotton can be wrapped for even more clean up options. To top it off, they were only about $2-$3 each.
Bottomline, I do like the Essie “I Am Strong” polish and would recommend it, especially if you like pink. Also, I just love saying that I’m wearing the “I Am Strong” shade when people ask about it.
