I’ve been meaning to start a blog for quite some time now but always hesitated for reasons that I don’t need to bore you with. Let’s just say that time and fear played a role in my procastination. Now that my daughters are 8 and 11, I thought I’d get off my butt and just do it. This blog really stemmed from my desire to document certain information that I will be imparting to my girls that other women may find useful or relatable, hence, the title: Dear Boo and Lulu. Boo and Lulu (if you haven’t guessed by now) are my daughters’ nicknames. To preserve their privacy and avoid embarassing them with their friends, I’m using their nicknames which only a handful of people know.
With the inundation of social media and the ease at which kids nowadays take to them, we (me and my hubby) want to make sure we are our kids’ “go to” for information for as long as possible. We’re not kidding ourselves…we know that 24-hour monitoring is impossible but at the very least, we can try to get our $0.02 in before YouTube does. Now you’re probably wondering why put this in a public forum like a blog? Great question! Selfishly, I also want to have a creative outlet that my profession doesn’t always provide. Perhaps in my attempt to let out my inner writer who’s dying to come out, I can also impart some helpful information to other women (or men).
Lastly, this blog also stems from the fact that growing up in the 70’s and 80’s in a somewhat repressed (and sarcastic) home environment, certain topics were never really discussed. I love my mother but I didn’t learn about my monthly visitor from her; I learned about it from my friends who learned it from who knows where. I also went to an all-girl Catholic school…the nuns were not very forthcoming about certain things. I think the habits restricted their empathy for other women. Now granted (here comes the disclaimer), I am not a health professional nor do I proclaim to be an expert…my posts will be based solely on my experience and what has worked for me and my family. I’m hoping these posts will be helpful for my girls later in life as a reference or anyone else in the same situation, and conversely I’m also hoping to learn from your feedback and comments.
Don’t get me wrong – this blog will be mostly very light and fun with topics like beauty, fashion, skincare (more about that later), shopping, travel, and just general things that girls enjoy, sprinkled with some meatier topics here and there.
So join me on this journey and let’s learn from each other!
