elf #23
elf Red Velvet
elf 15 Piece Collection at Target ($15)
The oxblood/burgundy/maroon trend has been all over the fashion blogs and magazines lately so I decided to use the elf #23 shade from the Target elf nail polish collection I recently purchased as seen in this post. I don’t know what the name of the shade is…the bottles only had numbers on them but this is a beautiful oxblood color with very subtle shimmer. It’s really pretty and so appropriate for Fall/Winter. It has a creamy application and highly pigmented…no streakiness at all. I used a base coat, applied a couple of coats of the polish, then topped it with Insta-Dri from Sally Hansen. I really love this shade; I normally don’t go for dark nail polish colors – I’m loyal to my nudes/beiges/pinks. And as I’ve said before, I’m not the best at applying nail polish (see IRL photo above) so I stay away from darker shades as they show imperfections more easily. Especially on my right hand; I’m right handed so holding the nail polish applicator with my left hand is always a challenge. Inevitably, my left hand always looks so much better than right hand.
Bottomline, I highly recommend this elf shade #23 – they’re still available in store at Target for only $2.00 – great deal! They’re not a full size bottle but if you want to give elf nail polishes a whirl, this is the way to go. Target online does have another elf nail polish collection (see pic above) with a similar shade (or perhaps it IS the #23) called Red Velvet. I have a hunch it’s the same one so check it out here. For $15, you get fifteen bottles – hmmm…let me do the math..$1 per bottle..nice! I just might have to pick this up while I’m at Target getting more groceries.
The even better news about these polishes….wait for it…yes – they do NOT have the harmful ingredients I’m trying to avoid: Formaldehyde, Toluene or DBP. This is also why I like brands like Zoya, Deborah Lippman and Butter London. But the latter three are much more pricier. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I read that elf products were free of these ingredients – for the price point, I say hooray for thinking of the safety of your consumers! This is also proof that you can enjoy high quality products without the need to include these harmful ingredients that in my opinion, serve the needs of the manufacturers, more than the consumers.
Let me know what you think if elf products or the reported harmful ingredients in nail polish. Truth or scare tactic? Meantime, enjoy the rest of your Sunday!
