Stopped by at Kohl’s to see about their sales…this time of the year, they usually put their Spring/Summer stuff on sale. And as the weather warms up, I don’t know about you but I get the urge to put away my Winter stuff and get very excited about wearing lighter and more colorful outfits. Spring is so uplifting, bringing with it a promise of new things to come. So what better time to lighten up our outfits (and wallets ;)) for an interjection of new life to our wardrobe?
I headed straight to the shoe department…I often find great deals on comfy shoes at Kohl’s…a rare combination. These were some of the items that caught my eye (click on the small pics above to go to the online Kohl’s links).
Sonoma Life+Style Oxfords $34 (orig $50)- these come in blue (chambray) and natural; both colors are perfect for Spring and Summer. Comfy and you can get away with not wearing socks; it has a hidden elastic goring under which means you can even remove the laces and it’ll still be secure. It has a polka dotted lining…blue and white on the chambray version and orange and white on the natural version. The sizing is true to size for me; I wear a 6 and it fit perfectly. I am in love with the natural version for its orange trim and the espardille/jute bottom…would be so cute with white jeans.
Keds Champion Oxfords $40 (orig $45) – Keds are a perennial summer staple for most…I actually have this ritual with my girls every Spring when I buy them each white Keds (or if I find them on sale, Jack Purcells for kids), white lightweight hoodies, and flip flops. It’s such an American sportswear standard. I myself haven’t worn Keds for about a decade now but these are so darn cute and talk about comfy…I love that it doesn’t have laces…slip ons are awesome, so easy to put on and take off. And of course, the gingham pattern is a no brainer for me. These come in other patterns like polka dots, plaid and plain. Sizing wise, Keds normally are true to size for me and the nice thing about Keds is their consistency even as new styles come out. Admittedly though, the sale price is not that great…$5 off from original price? Guess you’re paying for the long-standing history and quality of Keds.
Sonoma life+style Peep Toe Wedges $35 (orig $60) – these are really cute, the espadrille wedge is only 2.5″ high, very manageable. The chambray denim material with the elastic goring at the toe box is comfy but not as comfy on the back where it was rubbing on the back of my feet which is always a sensitive area. It also comes in cream, black, metallic silver and red multi (which is an Ikat type print). It does fit true to size, although a little bit of room may have helped the rubbing. These are a cute option but the comfort level is going to be relative to one’s feet sensitivities.
Chaps Espadrille Wedge $45 (orig $65) – Chaps is a less expensive line from Ralph Lauren that is carried by a few department stores like Kohl’s, Macy’s and JCPenney’s. If you want a wedge that is comfortable and screams summer…these are the shoes for you. The 3″ wedge/heel is comfy, along with its elastic strap. The fact that you just slip it on is even better. It comes in navy and black…love the navy version, so versatile. It does seem to run big; I usually wear a size 6 but it was slightly loose on me and I didn’t see it in a 5.5 in store or online so I had to pass on it.
As you can see, I lean on the casual side of Spring/Summer footwear…I have a busy lifestyle as a full time working mom so easy casual wear is important to me. I practically live in flip flops for most of May, June, July, and August (not too great for my heels). But don’t get me wrong…I also love me some impractical but cute or sexy shoes when the urge hits me…like on date night with the hubs or if I feel like dressing up for work. What about you? What’s your preferred footwear during the warmer months?
