And so another designer joins the Target family of capsule collections, namely Phillip Lim. If you’re not familiar with Phillip Lim, he founded the 3.1 label in 2005 and only two years later was awarded the CFDA Emerging Talent in Womenswear. He joins the ranks of other well known Asian designers like Jason Wu, Alexander Wang, Prabal Gurung, etc. who have emerged as major talents in the fashion industry in the last decade. Although I didn’t purchase anything when Jason Wu’s line debuted at Target, early reports of the Phillip Lim line seemed promising so I gave in to the temptation and checked out the collection while doing my weekly grocery shopping at our local Super Target. The clothes were nice enough…modern easy pieces that most women can wear. Most were made of polyester or cotton/rayon blend with prices ranging from $20 to $75 and a navy leather jacket for $250. The only clothing item I really wanted is the Sparkle Sweater ($40 – see second/third photos below) which comes in navy and cream but they didn’t have my size 😦 The gussetted tote in taupe is the primary reason I wanted to see the collection, which is obviously an imitation of the Celine Luggage bag – an accessory I don’t want to spend that much money on. At $55, the PL3.1 Target version was doable. I love this bag – love the taupe/gray-ish color and with its faux leather material, I can use this all throughout Winter even in the midst of rain or snow. I love the roomyness of it while still able to reduce its width by folding in the sides (see bottom left pic above). All in all, if you’re looking for a look-alike of the luxury Celine Luggage bag but don’t want to spend the $$$, I do recommend this alternative. It certainly won’t break the bank.
