I am a sucker for animal print, especially leopard print. I didn’t always subscribe to this aesthetic…I thought it was kind’a tacky actually when I was younger. Not sure when I changed my tune; I think it started with a scarf. When we moved to Colorado from South Orange County, California, my penchant for collecting scarves escalated. And among the first scarves I purchased when we first moved here was a leopard print scarf with a cream background (instead of tan) from Banana Republic. I think I saw a celebrity photo (either Jessica Alba or Cameron Diaz) with the actress wearing a huge cozy leopard print scarf and I was hooked. It looked so chic and warm. When I spotted (ha) the scarf at Banana Republic, I had to have it – it’s soft and huge – I can really cocoon myself in it when the temps start dropping. Here’s the thing…although it’s not for the meek, animal print can give an outfit a pop of color without shoving it in your face, assuming of course it’s not overdone. I only try to wear one (or two at the most) item at a time with this print, otherwise, we’re treading on tacky territory which can go horribly wrong (it’s the same way with lace for me).
As you can see in the pics below, my 180 degree change of heart is full on. My weakness for this print, especially with shoes is a bit out of hand. And here’s the funny thing – my husband hates this print. He is very conservative…he views it as I did before – tacky and not appropriate for a mother of two girls. Hmmm…I love my husband, very much – but fashion is not his thing. We agree on a lot of things…like religion, politics, moral values, humor – the important things – but on this we’ve agreed to disagree. Guess there could be worse things to disagree on.
I’ve included some ways I’ve styled this print below – see more
here. What about you? Do you like animal print? Have you purchased any lately? I would love to hear about it. That’s it for now!
